MYCEBO LAB / CAMBRIDGE, MA THREE CANDIDATES / ONE PILOT: DEMAND STUDY OPEN

Research line 001 / Ritual, without bullshit

The object
is the ritual.

Beautifully engineered cues for breath, darkness, touch, scent, and commitment. The object tells the truth. What happens next is yours.

  • Open label
  • No deception
  • One pilot winner

FIG. 001 / CONCEPT RENDER Candidate A: a physical pace for the longer exhale.

01 / THE PREMISE

You already run on rituals.
We make better ones.

Most wellness brands hide an ordinary behavior inside an extraordinary claim. Mycebo reverses the polarity: an inert object, an explicit script, and a repeatable moment of attention.

No crystals pretending to be physics. No proprietary blend. No doctor costume. Just a deliberately designed cue that may help you cross the tiny gap between intending and beginning.

02 / DEMAND STUDY

Objects with a job

Choose the wedge

Three non-ingestible candidates are competing for one production slot. We will prototype the strongest two and pilot only the winner. Everything else is backlog or research.

Candidate A / demand test Concept render of The Exhale: a polished stainless steel breathing pendant on a fine ball chain, on cobalt blue Concept render EX
Calibrated breathing pendant$79

The Exhale

A solid 316L stainless pendant with a deliberately restricted airway that makes a long exhale easy to pace. Jewelry with a job. No app, battery, pod, dashboard, or vagus-nerve cosplay.

  • Monolithic, cleanable 316L stainless
  • Electropolished oral-contact surface
  • Provisional rank: 1 / 3
Candidate B / demand test Concept render of Night Dose: a matte black weighted blackout sleep mask with quilted channels, on a near-black backdrop Concept render ND
Weighted blackout mask$54

Night Dose

A true-blackout sleep mask, lightly weighted around brow and temples—not on the eyeballs. Reversible cool-touch and warm-touch fabrics with a removable washable cover.

  • Seven-channel original architecture
  • OEKO-TEX fabric target
  • Provisional rank: 2 / 3
Candidate C / demand test Concept render of The Dose: a bead-blasted aluminum dial with a knurled edge and four index marks, standing on edge on orange Concept render 01
Silent tactile state selector$58

The Dose

A palm-sized aluminum object with four quiet, tactile detents: START, STOP, RESET, SLEEP. Rotate to choose; follow the marked protocol. An impossible luxury pharmaceutical artifact containing no pharmaceutical.

  • CNC 6061, bead-blasted, anodized
  • Captured spring-and-ball detent
  • Provisional rank: 3 / 3
Backlog / after winner Concept render of the Expectation Set: four 2 ml glass atomizer vials with black spray caps in a row on cream paper Concept render 04
4 × 2 ml associative scents$38

Expectation Set

Four deliberately layerable fragrance studies—DOWN, OPEN, START, ELSEWHERE—with a simple conditioning protocol: pair one scent with one chosen state, repeatedly. Scent, not treatment.

  • IFRA-compliant fragrance-house formulas
  • Discovery set before full bottles
  • No physiological claims

Backlog / after winner Concept render of Last Light: a dome-shaped bedside lamp glowing warm amber on a chartreuse backdrop Concept render LL
Phone-free amber fade light$119

Last Light

A weighted bedside object. Press once and warm amber light declines over twenty minutes. No clock, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, microphone, score, account, or second decision.

  • USB-C power, no battery
  • One button, one behavior
  • Build after pilot retention proof
See sequencing
Regulatory hold / research only Pack concept withdrawn pending counsel 00
Ingestible research conceptNo commerce

Dose Zero

An ingestible open-label placebo concept. It is outside the operating launch program and will not be sold, prototyped for ingestion, or represented as a supplement without written classification, labeling, and claims review.

  • Open-label by design
  • No purchase order authorized
  • Market precedent is not FDA clearance
Read the hold decision
System concept / deferred Concept render of The Expectation Machine: an open laboratory kit box holding a breathing tool, sleep mask, aluminum dial, protocol cards, and field notebook, on chartreuse Concept render KIT
Complete non-ingestible system$168

The Expectation Machine

The Exhale, Night Dose, The Dose, twelve protocol cards, and a seven-day field notebook in one giftable laboratory box. A complete physical interface for beginning, interrupting, and ending.

  • $191 bought separately
  • Best gift and strongest AOV
  • Only after the component winners exist

03 / LIVE PROTOCOL

A useful thing, right now

Build a 90-second state change.

No purchase required. Pick the state you want and the obstacle currently being tiresome.

1. Desired state
2. Primary obstruction
MYCEBO / GENERATED FIELD CARDF-01

Threshold breach

  1. Put one hand on the object you intend to use.
  2. Exhale longer than you inhale, three times.
  3. Work for twelve deliberately imperfect minutes.

Rule: readiness is not required for entry.

04 / FIELD TEST

The mechanism, free forever

Try the longer exhale.

This is the physical behavior The Exhale is designed to cue: an out-breath twice as long as the in-breath. Four seconds in, eight out, six cycles — seventy-five seconds including three to settle. No pendant required. The object is intended to make the pacing cue tangible and repeatable.

Ready

Ready

0 / 6 cycles

In through the nose for four. Out through pursed lips for eight. If you feel lightheaded, stop and breathe normally. A pacing exercise — not a treatment for anything.

05 / EVIDENCE

Interesting ≠ proven

The science is real.
The certainty is not.

2025

Updated meta-analysis

Randomized open-label placebo trials show a measurable overall effect across populations and outcomes—but with substantial variability and methodological limits.

2010→

No deception required

Trials have reported benefits even when participants were explicitly told they were receiving a placebo. Replication and mechanism remain active research.

0%

Cure-all tolerance

Mycebo is not a treatment, cure, diagnostic tool, or substitute for competent care. Subjective state is not the same thing as disease.

06 / BUILD IN PUBLIC

A catalog is not a factory

Three tests. Two alphas. One pilot.

The operating plan uses boring, available processes—CNC machining, cut-and-sew, and small-batch assembly—but commits inventory to only one winner. Demand, function, repeated use, contribution economics, safety, and legal clearance are gates, not footnotes.

  • 3demand candidates
  • 2functional alphas
  • 1pilot purchase order
  • D30retained use gate

07 / QUESTIONS

Reasonable skepticism,
pre-installed.

Is this a joke?

Yes, in the sense that good jokes reveal a mechanism. No, in the sense that the products are designed to be used repeatedly, manufactured well, and described honestly.

Are these photographs real?

No — they are concept renders of objects that do not physically exist yet, and every one is labeled as such. A company built on honest labels does not get to fake its photography. Production photos replace renders as each object clears its first run.

Are you claiming these products treat anything?

No. Mycebo products do not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. The non-ingestible objects are behavioral cues. Dose Zero will not ship until its classification and labeling have passed specialist review.

Can a placebo work if I know it's a placebo?

Sometimes, for some subjective outcomes, in some trials. That is the strange and genuinely interesting finding behind open-label placebo research. It is not a guarantee about you.

Why not just use a pebble?

You absolutely can. A designed object earns its price through salience, tactile pleasure, a clear script, and the likelihood that you will actually keep using it. If your pebble already does that, protect the pebble.

When can I buy this?

No production run is scheduled yet. We are comparing demand for three non-ingestible candidates, prototyping the strongest two, and piloting one winner. Interest signals are not orders; no payment is collected yet.
